The
Excursion
by Ford is the best available SUV for pulling trailers. It's
facing Extinction in 2004. (We have a
reprieve, it's now 2005) I don't want to
see that happen. We need Choices and Competition! |
|
Help
prevent the Excursion Extinction! |
| "I have a 2002 Excursion Limited
with the 7.3L diesel, running a K&N free-flow intake and
Bullydog chip. I get over 21mpg cruising at 70mph, 18 in the
city. Towing a 9000 pound boat at 70mph I get over 12mpg! This
truck is easily the most utilitarian vehicle I have ever owned
-- powerful enough to tow safely and with ease, but comfortable
(and, despite the naysayers, fuel efficient) enough to be an
excellent daily-driver. For Ford to discontinue this is an
example of their inability to market it. It's not an SUV, it's
a truck. People with genuine needs for trucks appreciate the
thought Ford's engineers put into the Excursion." |

I was reading your articles on the Ford Excursion
and I wanted to tell you how much I love ours. My husband and I
bought a 2001 4x4 V-10 white Limited Excursion a few years ago
and we love it. I primarily drive it because he travels and is
only home on the weekends so it is my vehicle. I get a lot of
compliments on it and people wonder how I drive the big monster.
But I have always been a truck girl, (1994 4x4 Ford Ranger, over
200,000. miles which we still have) so it was nothing for me to
drive the Excursion. It handles smoothly and I don't have any
problems parking it.
The kids love it and with the pull down t.v.
and it makes trips nice for them. And tons of storage. We have
hauled everything from furniture to building materials to lots
of people and we still have extra room.
I hope Ford keeps making these trucks because
nothing on the market can compare. I even think the gas isn't
too bad. I find that with the big tank you make less stops at
the pump then a smaller one with more frequent stops. Keep up
the good work Ford ! Once a Ford girl always a Ford girl.
Sincerely,
Mr.& Mrs. G. R.

I hear the other side complain that the
Ford Excursion is a fuel hog,
oversize and intimidating. There right! Intimidating could be best
describe as:
A truck as luxurious as a passenger
car.
A truck that at 2000 rpm's (72 mph) gets 19.9 miles to the gallon.
A truck that hauls my family of five and gear to the mountains and
back.
A truck that hauls my tools and material with heck of room to spare.
A truck that gets me from California to Washington non stop on one
tank of fuel.
A truck that uses fuel made from the by product of producing gas.
A truck if used for carpooling, seats 8, gets 19.9mpg, amortize this
over 8 people commuting in their own vehicle-could be burning on the
average of 2mpg each.
Stick it those uneducated lefties. Keep
in on Ford................
Love my 2004 Excursion 6.0 Diesel, Brandon Q.
"I had a 2002 Excursion
and loved it! What a great big powerful, take everyone and everything
with you vehicle. Drove up and down the southeast coast multiple
times with 4 kids and horses and never a problem. Unfortunately it
was stolen and TOTALLY stripped (only the shell was left). My husband
had been to the gas pump with me once and wouldn't buy another one so
I have the Expedition now. Nice vehicle, nice improvements for 2004
but its no Excursion. Keep making them Ford!!" Darcy
"I
have 2002 with 25,000 miles I love the truck my wife now drives it
exclusively. mpg 21 at 55 mph 19 at 65 mpg 17 at 75 mph, not bad for a
truck this size until the suburban comes with a Duramax we have the
best SUV bar none." DJB

News Flash, "There is hope"
October 28, 2003 Ford may continue making
Excursion Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) is reconsidering its plans to
discontinue production of its largest and most expensive sport-utility
vehicle, the Louisville-made Ford Excursion. The company, which produces
the vehicles at its Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, had announced
earlier this year that it expected to discontinue production of the
mammoth-sized Excursion in 2004. However, a Ford spokeswoman told the
Associated Press that the company now has no official date to end
production. "There continues to be a viable market, so we're taking a
second look at its production schedule," Ford spokeswoman Susan Krusel
told the AP. "Nothing has been finalized." Excursions, which range in
price from $37,000 to $50,000, are nearly 19 feet long and can weigh as
much as 7,688 pounds. Through September, Ford sold 17,887 Excursions in
the United States, down 22 percent from the same period a year ago.

Road, employs nearly 10,000 workers in Louisville. © 2003 American City

We've waited along time for a diesel SUV
that would pull 11,000#'s and can get over 20 MPG cruising the
freeway with just your family in it. Now finally we have it and
it's slated for termination in two more years! This model year it will
have an all new diesel 6.0L and 5-speed automatic transmission that will
increase towing capacity and fuel economy. What else could you want! I
think we can let Ford know that the Excursion is a SUV we want to keep. |
I'm
old enough to remember in the very late eighties, Ford had plans to
replace the Mustang with the front wheel drive Mazda designed Probe.
As soon as enough Mustang clubs across the country got wind of this,
a grass roots movement inspired a letter writing campaign to Ford.
Well the rest of the story is that Mustang is still here in the 2003
model year and Probe, Camero and Firebird are no longer.
I have a 2001 Excursion Limited
4X4 with the 7.3 Powerstroke. I love it. My wife and I have 3
kids and lots of nieces and nephews (who spend the night with
us a couple times a month). Many times, every seat is full.
Everyone who rides in it comments on how nice it is and how
nice the ride is.I also
recently put in a Bully Dog chip with the 4-position flip
switch and K&N air filter. When the kids aren't along,
everyone comments on the unbelievable power. It has not failed
in putting big smiles on the faces of first time riders.
This truck, with the diesel
engine, will last me for many years. This will be the first
vehicle I will make the last payment on and still have. I have
always traded before I got to that last payment. I am looking
forward to not having a car payment for the first time.
However, I would hate to see the Excursion discontinued
because, I am so happy with this one, I will eventually want
another. Maybe limited runs every few years would be the way
for Ford to go. These trucks are so durable that maybe they
are killing themselves. Just look at the sales from the first
year to the second. Only people with 6 figure incomes could
afford to trade for a new Excursion every year or two. The
Powerstroke is designed to run 350,000 miles before an
overhaul, and designed to work hard those 350,000 miles!
Unlike so many throw-away cars on the road these days, the
Excursion is an investment.
Fellow Excursion lover,
David L. Marten

The
Ford Excursion out sells the GM Suburban Heavy Duty 2500 and is the
only SUV you can buy in the USA with a diesel, part-time 4x4, front
leaf springs and it's the biggest! What's not to love? In a few
months the all new 6.0L diesel and Torque-Shift 5-speed automatic
will become available, which will set new fuel economy records far
above the gas powered SUV's available today. With 325 Horsepower and
560 Torque, this power house is a trailer towing dream! |

The Excursion also comes with two gas
engine choices in a 2-wheel drive. One of the many reasons I like the
diesel option in the Excursion, besides the fuel economy and power, is
the balance of weight pulling a trailer. The extra 600#'s of diesel
engine weight up front can make a difference in controlling a 11,000#
conventional trailer, especially hauling horses who do the Elvis hip
action of shifting weight from leg to leg.
